What you will need

Steel Tape Measure
Pen and paper to record your measurements
A friend to assist you

Each Guard is tailored to your window’s exact dimensions. For a perfect fit and total darkness, accurate measuring and proper installation are essential.

Free measurement guarantee

If the fit is not right, we remake it to your updated measurements and reship it with express delivery at no additional cost.

Step 1: Measuring Your Window’s Recess Depth

Step 1: Measuring Your Window’s Recess Depth

Before measuring your window, check the recess depth to ensure there’s enough space for the Guard. The minimum required depth is 1.18 inches. To measure, start at the front edge of the recess (farthest from the window) and measure to the shallowest point.

Watch for Obstructions

Watch for Obstructions

Common obstructions within your recess space include:

  • Window handles
  • Latches
  • Locks
  • Winders or cranks
Measuring with Obstructions

Measuring with Obstructions

Even with a deep recess, obstructions can block proper installation. To check clearance:

1. Measure the recess depth from the front of the recess to the window.

2. Measure the obstruction depth from the window to the front of the obstruction.

3. Subtract the obstruction depth from the recess depth to find the unobstructed space.

Important: You need at least 1.18 inches of unobstructed recess space to install the Guard securely.

Step 2: Measuring the Width

Step 2: Measuring the Width

Since windows are often not perfectly square, you need to measure the width in three different places to account for any unevenness:

  • Top of the window recess
  • Middle of the window recess
  • Bottom of the window recess

Record the smallest of these three measurements. This ensures your Guard fits the narrowest point of your window.

Step 3: Measuring the Height

Step 3: Measuring the Height

Next, measure the height of your window recess. Once again take measurements from three locations:

  • Left of the window recess
  • Middle of the window recess
  • Right of the window recess

Just like with the width, record the smallest of these three measurements.

Avoid Common Measuring Mistakes

Avoid Common Measuring Mistakes

To get the most accurate measurements, avoid these common errors:

  • Measuring at an angle: Always hold the tape measure straight and level.
  • Bending the tape measure: Keep the tape straight to ensure accurate measurements.
  • Rounding incorrectly: Round to the nearest sixteenth of an inch if needed.

Still unsure? Our comprehensive guide takes the guesswork out of measuring. Follow our step-by-step instructions for precise results and a seamless fit.

Step 2: Position the Top and Bottom Frames

Step 2: Position the Top and Bottom Frames

Place the top and bottom frames parallel to each other, and verify that the numbered labels on the adjoining ends match.

Step 3: Connect the Frames

Connect all of the frames together by connecting the fabric and the side frame with the upper and lower frames.

Step 4: Tighten the Cords

Step 4: Tighten the Cords

Proceed with this step only if your blinds do not latch properly. Using the included screwdriver, tighten the two side-frame screws to tension the internal cords.

Step 5: Insert the Corner Caps

Step 5: Insert the Corner Caps

Press-fit the 8 included corner caps onto all frame corners - 4 on the front side, 4 on the back side.

Step 6: Peel back the brush strip backing

Peel off a small part of the protective backing from the brush strip.

Step 7: Apply the brush strip

Step 7: Apply the brush strip

Press the brush strip down as close to the back side of the frame as possible, leaving free space above it for the weather strip.

Step 8: Split the weather strip

Step 8: Split the weather strip

Split the provided weather strip into two equal parts.

Step 9: Peel back the weather strip backing

Step 9: Peel back the weather strip backing

Peel a small length of the protective backing off one end of the weather strip to begin. You'll peel away the rest as you go.

Step 10: Apply the Weather Strip

Step 10: Apply the Weather Strip

FAQs

Nolight features a unique track system that eliminates gaps between the blinds and the window frame for complete darkness. Its dual-layer honeycomb fabric combines non-woven polyester with a reflective thermal barrier to block out light, regulate indoor temperatures, and reduce outside noise.

The width of the frame is 1 inch, and the depth of the frame is 1.3 inches.

Yes! Our Quartz Nolight blinds block out light just as effectively as our Graphite, Navy, and Titanium options.

Nolight is designed to fit most standard windows, but there are a few things to keep in mind.

Our blinds are not suitable for windows that aren't square, and they require at least 1.18 inches of clear recess space for proper installation. If your windows don't meet these requirements, Nolight may not be the right fit.

Below, you'll find a list of compatible and incompatible window types to help you determine whether Nolight is right for your home.

  • European Windows
  • Tilt-and-Turn Windows
  • Fixed Windows
  • Sliding Windows
  • Casement Windows
  • Hung Windows
  • Sash Windows
  • Bay Windows
  • Awning Windows
  • Skylights
  • Arched windows

For the best fit, please read our Measuring Guide before placing your order. Accurate measurements are essential to ensure your Nolight blinds fit your windows perfectly. Please double-check your measurements, as incorrect measurements may result in blinds that don't fit properly.

Nolight blinds are easy to maintain. The non-woven polyester fabric helps resist dust and stains, so all they need is an occasional wipe with a damp cloth. No special cleaners or treatments are required.

The interior of your Nolight blinds matches the fabric color you choose, while the exterior is always Quartz to help reflect sunlight and heat. For example, if you choose Graphite, the inside will be Graphite, while the outside remains Quartz. This design creates a clean, consistent look from the outside while helping reflect sunlight.
